From SHM Oscillation to Wave Patterns

A wave is fundamentally a collective pattern created by individual particles oscillating in Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM). While a single vibrating particle moves only back and forth over time in one spot, a traveling wave propagates that motion through space, linking time and distance together.

This interactive simulator bridges the gap between single-particle kinematics and full-scale wave dynamics. By tracking a lead oscillator and watching its motion transfer down a chain of coupled particles, it demonstrates how localized simple harmonic motion creates continuous transverse or longitudinal wave shapes.

How to use this simulator:
